A Brooklyn jury awarded Mr. Vargas $17.5 million for the City of New York’s violation of his civil rights for failing to provide him medical care while in custody. The jury found that the police officers involved failed to provide the necessary medical treatment and awarded $17.5 million to Mr. Vargas.
Richard Guarnieri began his journey into law in August 2021 when he enrolled at the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. Prior to law school, he graduated from CUNY Baruch in 2014. Richard is set to graduate from law school in 2024 with magna cum laude honors and an impressive class rank of 7. During his time in law school, he earned multiple CALI Awards for Academic Excellence in courses such as Civil Dispute Resolution & Procedure, New York Practice, Pre-Trial Litigation, Trial Advocacy, E-Discovery, Criminal Law II, and Trusts & Estates.
Driven by a desire to help people in their most critical times of need, Richard was drawn to the practice of law. He joined Harris, Keenan & Goldfarb in August 2024 and is eager to begin his legal career advocating for those who have been harmed by the negligence of others.
While still early in his professional journey, Richard takes pride in his academic achievements and looks forward to translating his success in law school into meaningful legal victories for his clients.
In his free time, Richard enjoys traveling, hiking, walking his dog, and spending quality time with his family.
