A Brooklyn jury awarded Mr. Vargas $17.5 million for the City of New York’s violation of his civil rights for failing to provide him medical care while in custody. The jury found that the police officers involved failed to provide the necessary medical treatment and awarded $17.5 million to Mr. Vargas.
Stephen La Rocca started working at Harris Keenan & Goldfarb in 2019. Before joining the firm, he became a partner at another law firm when he was 29. He also ran his own boutique medical malpractice firm for over ten years.
Mr. La Rocca knew he wanted to be a lawyer when he was in high school. He was a member of the Joseph Parks History Honor Society and graduated from undergrad in 1986. In 1990, he finished his law degree at NYU.
Mr. La Rocca decided he wanted to practice law to be a voice for lay people harmed by medical negligence. His biggest professional success is winning a favorable verdict for his client in a plastic surgery malpractice case in Richmond County.
Personally, Mr. La Rocca enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and performing extensive charity work.
