Harris Keenan & Goldfarb Advocacy Program at New York Law School

The Harris Keenan & Goldfarb Advocacy Program is the home for co-curricular and specialized certificate programs at New York Law School.

About the Program

At HKG Law, we’re proud to support the next generation of litigators through the Harris Keenan & Goldfarb Advocacy Program at New York Law School (NYLS).This program is a hub for students who are passionate about courtroom advocacy and alternative dispute resolution, combining rigorous academic training with real-world legal experiences.

Certificate Programs

The program offers NYLS students the opportunity to earn specialized certificates in critical areas of advocacy and negotiation:

Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate

Through the ADR Skills Program, students gain hands-on experience in resolving conflicts outside the courtroom. The curriculum includes foundational courses in:

  • Negotiation
  • Mediation
  • Arbitration

Additional electives allow students to deepen their skills as they work toward an Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate.

Advocacy Certificate

Designed for students interested in litigation
this certificate allows them to focus on:

  • Civil, Criminal, or Appellate Advocacy
  • Legal writing and procedural coursework
  • Hands-on training through clinics, externships, and field placements

By combining classroom learning with practical legal work, students graduate with a deeper understanding of the courtroom and advocacy process.

Competition Teams

To further develop their courtroom skills, students in the program can participate in one of NYLS’s competitive advocacy teams:

A Program That Reflects Our Values

The Harris Keenan & Goldfarb Advocacy Program at New York Law School carries our firm’s name in recognition of our ongoing support for legal education and advocacy. It reflects the core values we champion at HKG Law: developing skilled litigators and promoting excellence in both courtroom advocacy and alternative dispute resolution.

One of our founding partners, Seth Harris, serves as an adjunct professor at New York Law School and actively participates in the Advocacy Program as a coach. His direct involvement ensures that students benefit from mentorship rooted in real-world litigation experience and courtroom advocacy.

Although academic credit earned from participating in these teams does not count towards NYLS’s Experiential Learning Requirement, the teams provide additional valuable opportunities to hone practice skills and gain real-world experience in litigation and dispute resolution.
