A Brooklyn jury awarded Mr. Vargas $17.5 million for the City of New York’s violation of his civil rights for failing to provide him medical care while in custody. The jury found that the police officers involved failed to provide the necessary medical treatment and awarded $17.5 million to Mr. Vargas.
Sara Hosseini decided she wanted to become a lawyer at a very young age. Around five years old, people began telling her that she would make a “really good lawyer,” and that early encouragement stayed with her as she grew older and shaped her long-standing goal of entering the legal profession.
Sara pursued her undergraduate education at Queens College, City University of New York, graduating in 2021. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 2025, where she was recognized on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters.
While in law school, Sara sought out opportunities that allowed her to advocate for others while engaging in thoughtful and creative legal analysis. She was drawn to personal injury law because it encourages attorneys to think outside the box when developing strong case theories. Her interest in client-focused advocacy was further shaped by her experience in New York Law School’s Asylum Clinic, where she represented clients seeking asylum in the United States and worked directly with them throughout the legal process. This experience reinforced her desire to practice in an area of law that involves direct communication with clients and requires their active participation.
In addition to her clinical work, Sara served on the executive board of the Trial Competition Team at New York Law School and was selected as an HKG Advocacy Program Ambassador. She began working with HKG in 2024 as a 2L summer intern.
As a first-generation American, Sara is especially proud to be the first in her family to graduate from law school.
Outside of her professional pursuits, she enjoys spending time with her family and her pet rabbit, Momo.

Thank you so much for recovering my injury case from 9 years ago that was dead in the water since the company went bankrupt and there was nothing else to do. Miraculously, you resurrected my case and was able to get a settlement which completed for me the horrific accident and the suffering I endured because of it.
