A Brooklyn jury awarded Mr. Vargas $17.5 million for the City of New York’s violation of his civil rights for failing to provide him medical care while in custody. The jury found that the police officers involved failed to provide the necessary medical treatment and awarded $17.5 million to Mr. Vargas.
Scott Koplik brings to the firm a strong background in personal injury litigation and a dedication to helping injured victims stand up to insurance companies. Inspired early by two coaches who were also attorneys, Mr. Koplik pursued law as a way to channel his love of competition into advocating for clients facing life-changing injuries. A lifelong competitor, he not only excelled academically but also athletically, earning all-conference honors in baseball while at Vassar College. His passion for sports continues today, with interests in travel, dining, and following Premier League soccer as a devoted West Ham United supporter. Before law school, he also played and coached professional baseball in Germany for the Erbach Grasshoppers.
After earning a B.A. from Vassar College in 2003, Mr. Koplik went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law – Newark in 2007. While in law school, he was honored as a Dean’s Merit Scholar and served as production editor for the Women’s Rights Law Reporter.
Mr. Koplik has built his career on providing compassionate representation to personal injury victims. He believes in getting to know clients personally and working to leave them in a better position than when they first came to him. This client-centered approach has led to significant results, including securing a $3.6 million verdict for a traumatic brain injury victim struck by falling ice.
His litigation experience includes practice before the Supreme Courts of Delaware and New Jersey. Notably, he successfully represented a LASIK malpractice plaintiff in a landmark case before the Delaware Supreme Court that clarified surgical informed consent rules (Baird v. Owczarek, 93 A.3d 1222 (2014)).
In recognition of his skill and results, Mr. Koplik is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an exclusive group limited to attorneys who have obtained million-dollar or multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements for their clients.

Thank you so much for recovering my injury case from 9 years ago that was dead in the water since the company went bankrupt and there was nothing else to do. Miraculously, you resurrected my case and was able to get a settlement which completed for me the horrific accident and the suffering I endured because of it.
